Candace Gingrich, sister of congressional representative Newt Gingrich, will speak at William Jewell College at 7 p.m. Thursday, October 23 in the Yates-Gill College Union. The public is invited at no charge. Gingrich’s appearance is sponsored by the college’s Department of Multicultural Student Development.
Since 1995, Candace Gingrich has served as a key advocate for issues of importance to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. Her involvement in the movement for gay and lesbian rights began when her brother (Newt Gingrich, R-Ga.) was elected U.S. Speaker of the House. On behalf of the Human Rights Campaign, Gingrich has traveled the country to promote the importance of coming out, the duty to vote, and the power of everyday conversations to change minds.
Gingrich has been profiled in national newspapers and magazines and has appeared on “Good Morning, America,” the “Queen Latifah Show” and “Friends.” She is the author of a 1996 autobiography, The Accidental Activist.
