Alma Hunt, an icon in Baptist missions worldwide, died Saturday evening June 14 in Roanoke, Vir. She was 98 years old. Funeral services were scheduled at Rosalind Hills Baptist Church in Roanoke on Wednesday, June 18 at 10 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Burial will follow the service at the family plot at Evergreen Cemetery, Roanoke.
Hunt served as Dean of Women at William Jewell College from 1944 to 1948. “Miss Hunt taught some classes in Physical Education but gave the major part of her time to the office of Dean of Women,” wrote Dr. H.I. Hester in his book, Jewell Is Her Name. “In this she made a notable contribution. In the spring of 1948 she was elected to the office of Executive Secretary of Woman’s Missionary Union, auxiliary to the Southern Baptist Convention, and consequently resigned her position at the college.”
