Jewell Early Music Summer Festival offers series of events

The Third Annual Jewell Early Music Summer Festival will be held July 26 to August 5. Directed by Trilla Ray-Carter, cellist and instructor of music, and Jay Carter, countertenor and Jewell artist in residence, with Dr Anthony Maglione, assistant professor and director of choral studies, and soprano Sarah Tannehill Anderson, this year’s festival features early music from the across the European continent.

Concert 1: German and Austrian Baroque Masterworks
A benefit for Joplin Schools Music Program
Tuesday, July 26, at 7:30 p.m.
Renee Kelly’s at Caenen Castle, 12401 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kan.

Concert 2: The French Baroque
Thursday, July 28, 7:30 p.m.
The Chapel at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kan.
General Admission is $15, $10 for seniors and students. Tickets are available at the door.

Concert 3: The English Renaissance
Saturday, July 30, 7:30 p.m.
Founders’ Hall at Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, 415 W. 13th, Kansas City, Mo.
General Admission is $15, $10 for seniors and students. Tickets are available at the door.

Concert 4: Handel, the Ultimate Cosmopolitan
August 5, 8:00 p.m. concert, 7:00 p.m. pre-concert talk
Liberty United Methodist Church, 1001 Sunset Avenue, Liberty, Mo.
General Admission is $15, $10 for seniors and students. Tickets are available at the door.

The Jewell Early Music Workshop
August 1-5, William Jewell College campus, Liberty, Mo.
Workshop for vocal, choral and instrumental performance. Open to advanced high school and college musicians, accomplished amateurs and instructors.

The Workshop Seminar Series: Baroque Outside the Box!
A series of discussions and informal performances.
August 1-4, 3:30-4:45 p.m., Gano Chapel, William Jewell College campus, Liberty
General Admission $10 per day, payable at the door.

Free Workshop Showcase Concert
Featuring participants and faculty of the 2011 Jewell Early Music Summer Workshop.
Friday, August 5, 5:00 p.m.
Liberty United Methodist Church, Liberty
Admission is free.
