Jewell graduate Alyssa Emery named to Teach For America

Alyssa Emery, a 2009 graduate of William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., has been named to the prestigious Teach For America (TFA) corps for the 2010-2012 school years.

Teach For America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates who commit to teach for at least two years in urban and rural public schools and become lifelong leaders in expanding educational opportunity. This year’s 4,100 new corps members earned an average GPA of 3.6, and 89 percent held undergraduate leadership positions. They were selected from a record pool of 35,000 applicants, including 11 percent of seniors at Ivy League schools. For more information, visit www.teachforamerica.org.

Emery has been assigned to teach a special education class in Tulsa, Okla. She is the second Jewell graduate to enter the TFA class of 2010. Alex Hart, a member of the William Jewell class of 2010, will be serving in San Antonio, Texas.
