The William Jewell College Handbell Choir, Flute Choir, Chamber Orchestra and Symphonic Band will perform a spring concert beginning at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in John Gano Memorial Chapel on the campus in Liberty, Mo. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend; reservations or tickets are not required.

Each ensemble will perform for approximately 30 minutes. The Handbell Choir, under the direction of Christie White, will open the program with Allegro Giocoso by George Frederic Handel, from “Water Music,” arranged by Kevin McChesney. Also on the program are Cathy Moklebust’s Windscape and Michael Helman’s Scherzo. Student conductor Andrea de Regnier will direct Te Deum, based on “Te Deum,” “Leoni” and “Morning Song,” in a setting by H. Dean Wagner.

The Flute Choir, conducted by adjunct instructor of music Elaine Brown, will present the Aria from Cantata BWV 25 by Johann Sebastian Bach. The aria will be sung by soprano Suzanne Hatcher, assistant professor of music at William Jewell. Also featured will be the world premiere of Waves, a composition written especially for the choir by Allen Myers. A performance of Fantasia Spagnola Del by visiting composer Paola Viola will also be on the program.

The Chamber Orchestra, conducted by associate professor of music Dr. Tony Brandolino, will perform three pieces on the concert: Canto di Primavera (Song of Spring) by Paolo Viola; Ernest Chausson’s Chanson perpetuelle; and Skylife by David Balakrishnan.

The Symphonic Band, conducted by assistant professor of music Phillip Schaefer, will conclude the concert with selections including Mark Camphouse’s Symphonic Fanfare; Robert Russell Bennett’s Suite of Old American Dances; Charles Rochester Young’s Tempered Steel, with student conductor Matt Hendrix; and Robert W. Smith’s The Iliad from “Symphony No. 2.”
