Elizabeth Bonney, a senior religion and philosophy major, has been awarded The William Sloane Coffin, Jr. Scholarship for Yale Divinity School.
The William Sloane Coffin, Jr. Scholarship is awarded to one student based on demonstrated commitment to Coffin's prophetic leadership, his passion for justice, and his critical theological interpretations of the contemporary social and political scene.
William Sloane Coffin Jr. was a very prominent peace and justice activist, specifically, he worked with anti-war and civil rights movements; he served as the Chaplain at Yale for a number of years and also as Senior Minister at the famous Riverside Church in New York City.
The award is given to one student in the entering class, and it includes full tuition plus a $5,000/year stipend during the course of her time at Yale.
