Jewell student presents South African play as senior performance Contact: Rob Eisele, 816-415-7574 January 30, 2009
William Jewell College Theatre presents “Woza Albert!” by South African playwrights Percy Mtwa, Mbongeni Ngema and director Barney Simon. The senior theatre performance by theatre major Frank Ugochukwu will play in Peters Theater on the Liberty, Mo., campus of William Jewell College at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Feb. 6 and 7. Tickets are $5. For more information call 816-415-7590.
According to Ugochukwu, “Woza Albert!” is a powerful, humorous satire asking the question “What would happen if a black Christ returned to South Africa during the Apartheid era?” This rare production stars Ugochukwu, along with Charles Tolbert, a sophomore church music, music theory and composition and Applied Critical Thought and Inquiry major from Overland Park, Kan.
Peters Theater is located in Brown Hall, just east of Gano Chapel and the College Quadrangle.
