Robert M. Edsel, author of The Monuments Men, the February-released motion picture, will deliver the address at William Jewell College’s Achievement Day celebration on March 6. The dinner will be held at Kansas City’s Westin Crown Center Hotel.

General admission price for the dinner is $150 per person; ambassador-level admission is $250 per person, with various sponsorship opportunities available. For information about reservations and the event, visit www.achievementday.net or call Susan Tideman at 816-415-7550.

Edsel is the author of Rescuing Da Vinci and The Monuments Men: Allied Heroes, Nazi Thieves and the Greatest Treasure Hunt in History, as well as Saving Italy: The Race to Rescue a Nation’s Treasures from the Nazis. He is also founder and president of the Monuments Men Foundation for the Preservation of Art. Edsel began his business career in 1981 in oil and gas exploration, and his company pioneered the use of horizontal drilling technology. He sold the company’s assets in 1995 and moved to Europe with his family. While in Florence, he developed a great passion for art and architecture and became curious as to how so many great works of art survived the thefts and devastation of World War II.

He is regularly invited to lecture at prominent institutions including the Eisenhower Institute, the National Archives, the National Gallery of Art, the Nelson-Atkins Museum, National World War II Museum, Yale University and the Art Institute of Chicago.

The William Jewell College 70th annual Achievement Day event supports student scholarships and honors distinguished alumni who have made significant contributions in their fields. Alumni to be recognized include Charlie Funk, president and chief executive officer of MidWestOne Bank headquartered in Iowa City, Iowa; Bradley Gans, chief legal officer for Citi’s businesses throughout Europe, Africa and the Middle East; and Jack Talley, group vice president and general manager for Enterprise Holdings, which operates the Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo Rent A Car brands, headquartered in Oklahoma City.
