Alumni of William Jewell College will gather to celebrate Homecoming October 7-9 on the campus in Liberty, Mo.
The public is invited to attend the Homecoming football contest in which the Cardinals take on Southwest Baptist University at 1 p.m. October 8 in Greene Stadium. The Homecoming queen and king will be crowned at halftime during ceremonies that also recognize William Jewell’s alumni service award recipients.
William Jewell celebrates a new chapter in the life of the College as the institution observes its new membership in the NCAA Division II with a “Cardinal Village” pre-game celebration near Greene Stadium on October 8 prior to the gridiron match against Southwest Baptist.
Highlights of the weekend include a “Celebration of Golden Classes” for alumni graduating in or prior to 1961; the Cardinal Classic golf tournament; an Alumni Awards dinner; an alumni choir reunion concert and the Athletic Hall of Fame induction.
Alumni honorees for Homecoming 2011 are Fred ’56 and Shirley ’56 Pryor, Truex Lifetime Service Award; Juanita Trotter ’52 and Fred Merrell ’55, Distinguished Alumni Service Award; Mark Moberly ’05, Young Distinguished Alumni Service Award; Ann Barnes, Honorary Alumni Award; Bob Mann ’63, Humanitarian Award. Athletic Hall of Fame inductees are Steve Hudson ’83, football; Fernandars “Scoop” Gillespie ’84 (posthumously), football; Chad Jones ’98, men’s basketball; Charlotte Beck ’00, women’s basketball; and the 1982 football team.
