William Jewell students and Residence Inn to implement green initiative Contact: Rob Eisele, 816-415-7574 February 19, 2009
The William Jewell College Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE) team is joining forces with the Residence Inn on the Country Club Plaza for a small business environmental sustainability project.
On Saturday, February 21, from noon until 3:00 p.m., the SIFE students and staff of the hotel will change out the incandescent light bulbs of the lamps in all of the hotel’s 106 guest suites with compact fluorescent light bulbs. After the bulb change-out, all of the suites’ lighting will be retrofitted with compact fluorescent (CFL) bulbs to create a 70% reduction in energy consumption. The 70% reduction in energy will lead to annual green house gas reductions of 150 lbs. of CO2 a year per bulb.
The Jewell SIFE team will use the project as a part of the national organization’s “Sam’s Club Environmental Sustainability Challenge.”
William Jewell College is committed to bringing together talented students and gifted faculty mentors within a vibrant community sparked by a rigorous and intentional liberal arts curriculum. A full range of personal and professional development experiences are presented by the selective national liberal arts college’s location within the Kansas City metroplex of more than 1.5 million.
