Jason Robert Brown’s award-winning musical The Last Five Years will be presented on the William Jewell College campus in Liberty, Mo., February 11 and 12 as part of the college’s senior theatre performance series. Tickets are $5, with performances beginning at 7 p.m. both nights in Peters Theater, on the lower level of Brown Hall. Tickets can be purchased in advance by contacting the William Jewell Theatre Box Office at 816-415-7590 or emailing theatre AT william.jewell DOT edu. Tickets are also available at the door.
Senior theatre education major Katherine Myers will design, direct and perform in the two-person musical. “The unique story line takes the audience on a journey through the last five years of Jamie and Cathy’s relationship as they fall in and out of love,” Myers says. “Jamie tells the story from the beginning to the end, while Cathy tells the story from the end to the beginning. Jamie, a young author, finds success early in life while Cathy, a young actress, struggles to find more than a nibble of success. Jamie and Cathy must choose to follow a dream, with or without each other.” Sophomore Peter Hanman plays opposite Myers in this production.
The Chicago Tribune called Jason Robert Brown, writer and composer of The Last Five Years, “one of Broadway’s smartest and most sophisticated songwriters.” The off-Broadway show won Drama Desk awards for Best Musical and Best Lyrics in 2002.
