Claycrest Golf Club becomes Cardinal Hill Golf Course Contact: Rob Eisele, 816-415-7574 March 25, 2009 Liberty’s Claycrest Golf Club is undergoing an identity change as part of the recently announced operating agreement between William Jewell College and Orion Management Solutions. Claycrest Golf Club will become Cardinal Hill Golf Course on April 1, according to College and Orion officials. Built in 1967, the course was designed by Chet Mendenhall and measures almost 6,500 yards while providing a classic course layout. William Jewell College has owned and operated the golf course located at 925 N. Lightburne for the last eighteen years. In March, William Jewell signed an operating agreement with Leawood, Kan.-based Orion Management Solutions. The new Cardinal Hill name was chosen because of its ties to the College mascot and its reference to the nearby College’s familiar hilltop location. “Cardinal Hill was our top choice during the renaming discussion with the College because the William Jewell cardinal is such a recognizable symbol in the area,” said Orion partner Shane T. Gardner. “We’re excited about the new direction and identity that will be created with this change,” said Dr. David Sallee, William Jewell College president. “Guests at the course will enjoy an enhanced experience with the expertise of a proven golf management organization leading the golf course operations.” Orion Management Solutions is the largest professional golf management company operating in the Kansas City metro area. Orion currently manages four other properties in the area: IRONHORSE Golf Club in Leawood, Kan., and Swope Memorial Golf Course, Minor Park Golf Course and the Heart of America Golf Academy in Kansas City, Mo. Cardinal Hill Golf Course will operate as a public golf facility offering memberships, league and tournament opportunities while providing an affordable golf experience for the general public.
