William Jewell College choir named finalist in national competition
The William Jewell College Concert Choir has been named a National Finalist for the American Prize in Choral Performance in the College/University Division. Founded in 2009, the American Prize is a series of nonprofit, national competitions to recognize and reward the best performing arts in the country.
“Jewell is a finalist along with some of the top choral programs in the United States, including the world-renowned choirs from Westminster Choir College and Indiana University” says Dr. Anthony Maglione, director of choral studies and associate professor of music.
In 2015-2016, Jewell’s Concert Choir was named Runner Up (secondplace) in the American Prize competition. The auditioned, highly selective ensemble composed of the best undergraduate choral singers has appeared in performance with the Canadian Brass, King’s Singers and the American Spiritual Ensemble. The Concert Choir was invited to perform at the 2015 Missouri Music Educators Association’s In-Service Workshop/Conference, the 2016 South Western division ACDA Conference and the 2019 National ACDA Conference. Since 1985, the Concert Choir has made a triennial two-week concert tour through England and Scotland. The Concert Choir’s latest two albums on Centaur Records and Albany Records and are available for download and streaming on most platforms.
