Jewell sets holiday event schedule


William Jewell College is proud to announce its 2018 schedule of holiday events and festivities.

All Jewell-hosted events are free and open to the public. Jewell’s holiday calendar includes the following events:

Hanging of the Green, 10:15 a.m., Nov. 28

John Gano Memorial Chapel, William Jewell College campus, Liberty

An all-campus musical celebration to open the holiday season, featuring the Handbell Choir, Jazz Band and Choral Scholars.

Lighting of the Quad, 7 p.m., Nov. 30

Gano Chapel and Quad, William Jewell College campus, Liberty 

A celebration of the season in Gano Chapel with the Symphonic Band, followed by a lighting ceremony on the Quad.

Celebrating the Green, 8:30 p.m., Nov. 30, and 2 p.m., Dec. 1

Peters Theater (Brown Hall), William Jewell College campus, Liberty

The Jewell Theatre Company and the Jazz Band will present “A Charlie Brown Christmas” by Charles M. Schulz. A classic holiday story combining reader’s theatre and live music. The first performance will follow the Lighting of the Quad. Donations will be accepted for the Ghostlight Society Fund.

Concert Choir Christmas Concert, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 1

Our Lady of Perpetual Help/Redemptorist Catholic Church, 3333 Broadway, Kansas City, Mo.

The Concert Choir will perform at the church’s third annual Christmas concert.

It’s the Holiday Season! Featuring the Choral Ensemble and Saxophone Ensemble, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 2

John Gano Memorial Chapel, William Jewell College campus, Liberty

This free concert will feature a full complement of your favorite Christmas music.

Advent Chapel, 10:15 a.m., Dec. 5

The guest speaker will be Dave Culver, pastor of Liberty Christian Church.

Liberty Symphony Orchestra Holiday Concert, 7:30 p.m., Dec. 8

Liberty Performing Arts Theatre, 1600 S. Withers Road, Liberty

Special holiday concert featuring” Nutcracker” selections and featuring Luzicka Ballet. Go to for more information (ticket purchase required).

The City Come Again, doors open at 11:15 a.m., music begins at 11:35 a.m., Dec. 10

Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral, Broadway at 13th Street, Kansas City

Jewell’s Christmas gift to the city in words and music, featuring the College’s Handbell and Concert Choirs; Jewell organist Dr. Ann Marie Rigler; Jewell President Dr. Elizabeth MacLeod Walls; Dr. Ian Coleman, chair of Jewell’s music department; Dr. Ruth Williams, assistant professor of English; the Very Reverend Evelyn Hornaday, interim dean of Grace and Holy Trinity Cathedral; Dr. Matthew Naylor, president and CEO of the National WWI Museum and Memorial; and Sarah Rowland, chair of the board of Lead Bank and Jewell trustee.
