William Jewell announces 2018 Homecoming plans


William Jewell College will celebrate the rich tradition of Homecoming with a series of events on the Oct. 5-6 weekend.

The Homecoming festivities will start on Friday, Oct. 5, with a free Back to Class lecture, a Celebration of Golden Classes, Cardinal soccer games and the Alumni Awards Dinner honoring Anita (McPike) Gorman, ’53, John F. Truex Lifetime Alumni Service Award; Brad Douglas, ’84, Distinguished Alumni Service Award; Ryan Harwell, ’05, Young Distinguished Alumni Service Award; Walter Franz, ’74, Jewell Humanitarian Award; and James McCrossen, Honorary Alumnus.

The events will continue on Saturday with the Nursing Excellence Alumni Scholarship 5K, an art exhibit by Phil Maslin, ’68, a celebration of 25 years of the Pryor Leadership Program, the John Priest Greene Society coffee and new member brick dedication, a pregame celebration hosted by the Alumni Board of Governors, Cardinal football game, a community outreach concert by the Liberty Symphony Orchestra and the Jewell Athletic Hall of Fame reception and induction ceremony. Several class reunions are also scheduled throughout the weekend.

Athletic Hall of Fame inductees include Ed Elliott, ’60, football and wrestling; Bob Hatcher, ’65, cross country/track and field; Drew Mathews, ’06, basketball; Mark Brackman, ’07, baseball; Mike Stockton, Jewell baseball coach; the 1961 and 1963 men’s cross country teams; and the 2003 women’s basketball team.
