Six civil engineering students, along with associate professor Dr. Taqsim Husnain placed first in the 2024 American Institute of Steel Construction student steel bridge competition national finals. They competed against 46 other regional champions at Louisiana Tech on June 1, placing first in construction speed and second in economy.

This was the team’s first appearance in the national finals and this competition is largely viewed as the most prestigious student competition in the nation. They qualified after placing second earlier in year at the American Society of Civil Engineers Mid America Student Symposium.

The students were Mark Chiselita, Jacob Berkheimer, Logan Perdue, Brenden Day, Carson Payne and Hayden Vernon.
