It All Adds Up To Jewell
Explore the origins and applications of mathematical problems. Pursue a balanced study in pure and applied mathematics.
At Jewell, we can ensure small classes taught exclusively by Ph.D. professors. You will become active in both individual and collaborative research with students and faculty as early as your first year on campus. Our Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics curriculum is designed to provide you with a comprehensive understanding of the subject, and a strong background in the liberal arts. You will be challenged to explore the origins and applications of mathematical problems, many of which arise from various fields of science.
As a math student, you will have the opportunity to broaden your academic scope with a double major. While most any major is an option, recent students have selected a second major in physics, chemistry, economics, Applied Critical Thought and Inquiry, civil engineering, dual-degree engineering and psychological science. If you select mathematics as a second major combined with a Bachelor of Science primary major, you are not required to meet all core requirements for the B.A. degree. We also offer a mathematics minor.
Please note: If you would like to be certified to teach mathematics in grades 9-12 in the State of Missouri, you will complete a major in secondary education and a major or minor in mathematics.
Graduates obtaining the Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Mathematics will:
Meet Dalton Nelson, a senior in the dual-degree engineering program. He helped two professors conduct a summer science camp for underserved children in Marfa, Texas, and practiced astronomy at Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff, Ariz. He plans to further his studies in biomedical engineering.
