Nonprofit Leadership Association

Nonprofit Leadership Association is committed to making a significant difference in the lives of community members. The NLA enables significant competency development through activities, events, educational sessions and networking with nonprofit professionals. The competencies align with the William Jewell College Nonprofit Leadership studies as well as the needs of nonprofit organizations in the community.

How will we serve?

NLA organizes service projects on campus and in the community. The group responds to needs as they arise, such as preparing hurricane relief kits for Heart to Heart International.

The Skip-A-Meal Hunger Relief Program is the signature program of impact of the Nonprofit Leadership Association. It has raised thousands of dollars each year for local food pantries in the region including Harvesters and InAsMuch Ministries. Students are given the opportunity to donate one meal from their meal plan each week to support this cause. This unique fundraising model was originally developed by students as part of a Pryor Fellows Legacy Project.

What are the professional development benefits?

NLA offers a number of activities, events, educational sessions and networking opportunities with nonprofit professionals. The competencies align with the Jewell's Nonprofit Leadership studies as well as the needs of nonprofit organizations in the community. Some of the competencies include board and committee leadership development, volunteer management, fundraising and philanthropic principles, marketing and communications, risk management and law, advocacy and public policy, program development, strategic planning, and business ethics.

How will NLA impact my career?

Through various activities such as Jewell's Nonprofit and Service Career Fair, service projects, internships, live case studies and guest speakers, you are introduced to key leaders in the nonprofit sector. The combination of academic rigor, competency development, strategic networking opportunities and dynamic internship are the recipe for success to start your nonprofit career.
