Accreditation Process
Every 10 years, Jewell undergoes an institutional reaccreditation process with the Higher Learning Commission, which gives us an important way to assess our overall effectiveness as a liberal arts college. William Jewell College has been continuously accredited since 1915 and received full re-accreditation with the last survey completed in October 2022. The next comprehensive evaluation will take place in 2028-2029.
Accreditation is the voluntary process of peer institutions working to ensure that schools do what they claim to do. It provides a reasonably reliable external assessment of integrity and performance, and it certifies to stakeholders, current and future students, and the public that the institution is a quality institution and is managed according to accepted best practices. It includes every aspect of the institution, including finance, but its main focus is on whether the college provides services of value and effectively fulfills its mission. Being awarded accreditation ensures that an institution has been evaluated and that it met set standards of quality determined by the accrediting organization granting the accreditation.
