We prohibit the following items in your student room: hot plates, toasters (all kinds), coffee makers with heating elements or anything with an exposed heating element. Please note that you can store and use these items in the common area kitchenettes, located in each building, for your use.
Living Life as a Cardinal
Your move-in day will be your very first day on the William Jewell College campus. You’ll meet your roommates, classmates and teammates who will learn alongside you for the duration of your college experience.

Jewell Housing
Browning Hall
In this co-ed hall, each room has a sink and medicine cabinet/mirror. With tiled floors in each room, some students choose to bring a rug. Community restrooms are located on each wing. Dimensions: 13’7” x 11’2” (152 sq. ft.) – 16’8” x 12’5” (207 sq. ft.)
Eaton Hall
A co-ed hall, Eaton has community-style restrooms on each wing of each floor. Rooms on the first floor are tiled, so you can opt to bring a rug. Dimensions: 12’ x 12’2” (146 sq. ft.) – 19’7” x 18’1” (354 sq. ft.)
Mathes Hall
Mathes is a co-ed hall that was fully renovated in 2018, complete with a fitness center. Dimensions: 13’4” x 19’11″ (132 sq. ft.) – 15’7” x 15’2” (236 sq. ft.)
Jones Hall
Jones is a co-ed hall featuring suite-style bathrooms. Dimensions: 12’6” x 11’6” (144 sq. ft.) – 14’10” x 14’4” (213 sq. ft.)
Melrose Hall
Melrose is a co-ed hall featuring suite-style bathrooms. Dimensions: 14’5” x 7’3” (105 sq. ft.) – 14’5” x 10’7” (153 sq. ft.)
Kappa Alpha Order
Fraternity row is located on campus and is the site of three nationally affiliated fraternities, including Kappa Alpha Order, Lambda Chi Alpha and Phi Gamma Delta.

Shumaker Sorority Houses & Greek Common
Shumaker Hall joins three sorority houses with common spaces. It features suite-style rooms, social lounges, fully-equipped kitchens, a fitness center, study rooms and a multipurpose conference center. The house is home to Alpha Gamma Delta, Delta Zeta and Zeta Tau Alpha.

Frequently Asked Questions About Student Housing
Once you’ve made your enrollment deposit after admission, we will email you a link to the residence hall and meal plan form. You can let us know your roommate preferences, select a meal plan option and review our housing policies. Residence hall preferences and requests are met on a first-come, first-served basis determined by the dates of submitting your enrollment deposit.
Yes, we offer a variety of meal plans available through the Dining Hall, Cardinal Cage or the Beak. You can see our dining hall hours and meal plan options on Fresh Ideas.
We do offer summer housing for students taking summer classes at William Jewell College in Missouri. Otherwise, students are required to vacate their student housing after the fall, spring and summer semesters for maintenance and cleaning. If you have a permanent address outside of the Kansas City metropolitan area, then you may apply to stay in campus housing if you are:
- Participating in an official College-sanctioned/sponsored function
- An international student unable to travel home
- Required to work a local job, internship, or practicum (requires documentation of employer/sponsor on company letterhead or e-mail)
Students who wish to change rooms must fill out the Room Change Request Form and obtain advance authorization before changing rooms.
