Christopher McCullick, D.B.A.

Dr. Christopher McCullick joined the William Jewell College faculty in January 2013 and now serves as Division Head for Business, Communication, and Education and as Professor of Accounting. He teaches across the accounting curriculum — Fundamentals of Financial Accounting, the Intermediate and Advanced Financial Accounting sequences, Auditing, and Cost Management — and has also developed and taught a course connecting accounting, personal finance, and the good life.

He earned his Doctorate of Business Administration in accounting from Anderson University, where his dissertation examined how a company’s corporate social responsibility record shapes the market’s reaction when fraud comes to light. He also holds a Master of Accountancy and a B.S. in Accounting from Missouri State University, and maintains an active CPA license in Missouri. Dr. McCullick continues to take on contract audit and accounting engagements, which keeps his courses current and gives advanced students exposure to real client work.

His teaching and research center on financial accounting and auditing, with additional interests in accounting fraud, corporate social responsibility, international business, and personal finance. Much of his career has carried an international dimension: he spent a year as an Instructor of Accounting at Missouri State University’s branch campus in Dalian, China, and later traveled abroad extensively as a senior internal auditor for Euronet Worldwide, Inc. He began his career in audit with Deloitte & Touche LLP and Novak Birks, P.C.

He builds hands-on work into his courses, including an escape-room activity in which introductory students apply financial accounting concepts to solve a series of puzzles — an approach that earned him an honorable mention for the Bea Sanders AICPA Innovation in Teaching Award and an invitation to present it at a national teaching conference. His teaching has also been featured in Course Hero’s Best Faculty Lessons. He was named William Jewell College Faculty Advisor of the Year in 2018 and shared the award with the Business Department in 2021. He advises accounting and business majors on coursework, the CPA track, and career plans.
