Laura Lowry, D.M.A.

Dr. Lowry teaches studio voice, vocal pedagogy, diction and song literature. She also maintains a private studio of high school students in Lee’s Summit.

As a soprano, Dr. Lowry is a versatile performer of operatic, song, oratorio and choral repertoire. Hailed as “magnificent” by KC Metropolis, highlights from previous performances include solos in works by Bach, Britten, Mozart, David Lang, and Chen Yi, and the operatic roles Ilia (Idomeneo), Belinda (Dido and Aeneas), Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Helena (A Midsummer Night’s Dream), and Valencienne (Die lustige Witwe).

Her doctoral research on German composer Emilie Zumsteeg was the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship to Stuttgart, Germany, during the 2016-2107 academic year. During this time, Dr. Lowry transcribed unpublished manuscripts at the Württembergische Landesbibliothek and worked with faculty at the Staatliche Hochschule für Musik and Darstellende Kunst Stuttgart.

Dr. Lowry is an active member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and serves as treasurer for the Kansas City NATS Chapter. She frequently serves as an adjudicator for vocal master classes and competitions within the Kansas City area and has presented on vocal pedagogy at conferences and in-services for local school districts.

She received a D.M.A. and M.M. in Vocal Performance from the UMKC Conservatory, where she served a graduate teaching assistant. She also holds an M.S. in Mathematics, B.M. in Vocal Performance and a B.A. in Mathematics (with a minor in German) from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas.
