Humanities Minor at William Jewell
The Humanities minor provides an interdisciplinary framework for exploring the ideas, values, and questions that shape human life and society. Students engage with multiple fields to develop a deeper understanding of culture, history, human expression, and the ways people make meaning.

Goals for Student Learning
Students explore the values, ideas, and questions that have shaped human cultures across time and place. They consider how individuals and communities understand meaning, identity, justice, and the human experience.
Students practice integrating different ways of thinking and knowing about society and culture. By drawing from multiple disciplines, they learn to make connections between ideas that might otherwise be studied separately.
Students develop the ability to read, interpret, and analyze literary and cultural works and historical primary sources. They examine these works within their social, political, economic, historical, and artistic contexts while using different critical approaches.
Immerse Yourself
The Humanities minor requires at least 16 hours from courses in English, history, humanities, Latin, music, political science, or Spanish. At least 12 hours must come from courses at the 200 level or above, giving students substantial opportunity for advanced study.
The interdisciplinary structure allows students to shape the minor around their interests. Students might focus on literature and history, culture and politics, language and the arts, or combine courses across several areas.
