Pre-counseling
Students from any academic major can pursue counseling as a professional goal. The pathway allows students to develop a strong liberal arts foundation while exploring psychology, human development, communication, ethics and other areas relevant to counseling.
Students participating in Pre-Counseling will:
Students interested in counseling are encouraged to pursue experiences that develop their understanding of helping professions and human services. These may include internships, volunteer work, mentoring, community service and experiences in educational, healthcare, nonprofit or social-service settings.
Students may pursue any undergraduate major. Psychology can provide a particularly relevant foundation, but students are encouraged to select a major that reflects their academic interests and career goals.
Advising can help students identify courses and experiences that will strengthen their preparation for graduate counseling programs.
Our students value the undergraduate research emphasis at Jewell. Unlike many schools, Jewell involves you in research your first year of college. You will work with peers and collaborate with professors, and learn to question, challenge and think critically.
A number of students publish research articles in national journals, present papers and posters at national conferences, earn research grants at labs across the globe and compete intercollegiately on research presentations.
Jewell graduates have been accepted into medical programs throughout the country.

Qualified William Jewell students may apply for early consideration to the Master of Arts in Counseling program at Central Baptist Theological Seminary.
The agreement includes specific academic and application requirements, including GPA standards, a letter of intent, an application, a counselor disposition inventory, an interview and faculty references.
Students should begin discussing their counseling goals with an advisor early in their undergraduate experience. Advising can help students select relevant coursework, identify professional experiences and understand the requirements of graduate counseling programs.
