Meet Our Engineers

Kansas City District US Army Corps of Engineers

As a hydrology and hydraulics engineering intern, Junior Mark Chiselita created flood models for rivers and surrounding areas and helped conduct a study on the endangered Pallid Sturgeon on the Missouri River.

American Rail Engineers Corporation

Júlia Yamate de Almeida, ’22, of São Paulo, Brazil, is a junior engineer at ARE in Kansas City. She was an Academic All-GLVC tennis team player and VP of Jewe’l’s American Society of Civil Engineers chapter, among other campus activities.

JE Dunn Construction

After two summer internships in Kansas City and Atlanta, Whitney Holloman, ’20, is now a project engineer with JE Dunn in Savannah, Georgia. One of her projects was the Georgia Tech Baseball Stadium.

McCownGordon Construction

First and intern at McCownGordon and now a field engineer, Major Walker, ’20, loves creating things to benefit communities, such as schools and a project at Children’s Mercy Hospital.

Network and Compete

National Qualifiers

Jewell’s American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter competed in the ASCE Symposium at Iowa State University, winning first in the Innovation Contest and qualifying for the national competition. They also completed in the Steel Bridge Competition and Student Paper Presentation.

Bridge Competition

Students participated in the regional American Institute of Steel Construction’s Student Steel Bridge Competition. After constructing the bridge to contest specifications, they tested it for various loads.

Building Connections

Jewell’s ASCE Student Chapter, in collaboration with the ASCE Young Members Group, hosted an event with young professionals from Kansas City civil engineering firms.
