Master of Science in Education Curriculum and Instruction

Students must also complete a minimum of five courses totaling at least 18 credit hours from the following:

• EDU 501 – Introduction to Differentiated Instruction — 4 credits
• EDU 502 – Differentiated Instruction Toolkit — 4 credits
• EDU 503 – Effective Assessment and Data Use to Improve Instruction — 4 credits
• EDU 504 – Diverse Learners — 4 credits
• EDU 507 – Graduate Instructional Design and Assessment — 4 credits
• EDU 540 – Graduate Seminar in Teaching Methods and Strategies — 2–4 credits
• EDU 541 – Graduate Seminar in Assessment — 2–4 credits
• EDU 542 – Graduate Seminar in Curricular Design and Implementation — 2–4 credits
• EDU 543 – Graduate Seminar in Targeted Student Growth — 2–4 credits
• EDU 544 – Graduate Seminar in Maintaining a Productive Classroom Environment — 2–4 credits
• EDU 610 – Special Topics in Education — 3 credits

A maximum of 15 hours from EDU 540–544 may count toward the M.S.Ed., with no more than four total credits from any individual seminar course counting toward the degree.

Students must earn a B– or better in every course and maintain a minimum 3.0 graduate GPA to earn the M.S.Ed.

Not ready to pursue the full master’s degree? William Jewell also offers a Graduate Certificate in Curriculum and Instruction.

Students earn the certificate by successfully completing 15 credit hours of study within the M.S.Ed. curriculum and maintaining a minimum 3.0 graduate GPA.

Transfer courses cannot be applied toward the Graduate Certificate.

Students who want to change from the M.S.Ed. to the certificate—or from the certificate to the M.S.Ed.—after admission must submit a new application reflecting their desired program.

To be considered for admission to the M.S.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction, applicants must provide:

• A completed Application for Admission.
• An official transcript from a properly accredited college or university showing completion of a bachelor’s degree.
• A minimum undergraduate GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.
• Official transcripts from all other colleges and universities attended, regardless of whether the applicant was an undergraduate or graduate student or earned credit.

William Jewell College reserves the right to deny admission when an applicant’s academic history or professional qualifications are determined to be unsuitable for graduate study.

Students may request to transfer up to six graduate-level education credits from another institution.

Transfer coursework must be reviewed by the Education faculty to determine whether it is equivalent to required coursework in the program and is subject to final approval by the Registrar.

No more than six transfer credits may apply toward the William Jewell M.S.Ed.

Students who want to take graduate education courses without pursuing the M.S.Ed. or Graduate Certificate may enroll as unclassified/non-degree-seeking students.

Unclassified graduate students may complete up to 16 hours of M.S.Ed. coursework without completing the regular degree admission process, with a maximum of two courses or eight hours in a single term.

Non-degree-seeking students must maintain a 3.0 term GPA, with no individual course grade below a B–.
